Dr. Richard Ganz was born in New York City, and raised in a Jewish home. He graduated from the City University of New York with a degree in Psychology. He then earned his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. After a year’s internship at Wayne State University Medical Center, he did a year of Post-Doctoral study at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, New York, where he was later appointed to the Clinical Faculty of the Department of Psychiatry. As well as being on the Clinical Faculty, Dr. Ganz taught at Syracuse University.
Following his conversion to Jesus Christ, Dr. Ganz was fired from the medical center and teaching positions because it was deemed inappropriate to “bring his faith into his psychotherapy practice.” Dr. Ganz went on to study theology for the next four years, at Westminster Theological Seminary, receiving in 1978 his Master of Divinity degree. During this time of study, he also worked with Dr. Jay Adams at the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation, doing counseling and training pastors and seminary students in Biblical Counseling. During this time, his love and commitment to the Word of God as sufficient in all areas of faith and life found its full expression. By God’s grace, Dr. Ganz has not wavered in this commitment. He would give up a thousand great jobs so that Jesus Christ might be glorified.
God has been pleased to use Dr. Ganz mightily. Dr. Ganz has lectured at major secular universities and Christian Seminaries around the world, including Tokyo University, Moscow State University, Harvard University, Queens University, Belfast, Penn State University, Butler University, The Free Evangelical Theological Academy in Switzerland, The Institute Biblique in Belgium, The Free Theological Academy in Germany, Westminster Theological Seminary, etc. He also lectures extensively in conferences and seminars. He is the Pastor of the Ottawa Reformed Presbyterian Church, and the Founder and President of Ottawa Theological Hall, where he is also Professor of Biblical Psychology and Counseling.
Dr. Ganz’s work integrates over three decades of intensive biblical study (in three languages), nearly a decade of secular psychological training and practice, and a well-rounded pastoral ministry in the same church for over thirty-five years.
He and his wife Nancy, the author of the highly acclaimed “Herein is Love” Old Testament commentary series for children, have four daughters, five grandchildren and live on a farm in the Ottawa valley.
