Title: Everyone’s A Theologian, An Introduction to Systematic Theology
Author: Dr. R.C. Sproul
Book review by: Cy Aiken
The late Dr. R.C. Sproul founded Ligonier Ministries, served as the first president of Reformation Bible College, provided pastor-teacher services at Saint Andrew’s Chapel in Sanford, Florida, is featured in the daily online program Renewing Your Mind and authored more than one hundred books, including The Holiness of God. He is renowned for his “skill at explaining difficult theological concepts in uncomplicated terms without dumbing them down”.
Dr. Sproul’s reputation is intact with Everyone’s A Theologian as he guides the reader through a brief (335 pages/60 chapters), comprehensive summary of systematic theology, which he defines as “an orderly, coherent study of the principal doctrines of the Christian faith”. Here he addresses topics including revelation, canonicity, the Trinity, predestination, creation, sin, providence, the atonement, regeneration, justification, adoption, speaking in tongues, sanctification, angels & demons, death, the resurrection, the millennium, heaven & hell, what happens on judgement day and more. These doctrines are presented in stand-alone five-page chapters (i.e., useful for quick reference), which are organized logically in sections entitled Theology, Anthropology and Creation, Christology, Pneumatology, Soteriology, Ecclesiology and Eschatology. Notwithstanding the somewhat ‘daunting’ section titles, each chapter is written in language which is clear, captivating, biblically faithful and solidly Reformed.
In summary, I agree with Dr. John MacArthur’s assessment that Everyone’s A Theologian, An Introduction to Systematic Theology serves as a “valuable resource for everyone from the newest believer to the most seasoned pastor”.
