Title: Why We’re Protestant
Author: Nate Pickowicz
Published: 2022
In this compact, but profound book, author Nate Pickowicz, minister of a small, rural church in northern New England, doesn’t disappoint.
He first points out that Christianity is in the midst of a crisis, and explains, with historical facts, the reasons behind this fierce battle for biblical truth. It is important to note that Martin Luther’s posting of his Ninety-Five Theses in Wittenberg was indeed a game changer, but wasn’t the beginning of Reformation as many would think.
In the first chapter, Light After Darkness, the author takes us on a historical journey captivating the reader’s intellect, with the help of biblical scriptures and historical figures such as John
Wycliffe, John Hus, Martin Luther and others.
Chapters 2 to 6 are all about the five Solas: Sola Scriptural (Scripture Alone); Sola Gratia (Grace Alone); Sola Fide (Faith Alone); Solus Christus (In Christ Alone); and Soli Deo Gloria (For the Glory of God Alone).
In the entirety of this informational, educational, and enlightening book, Nate Pickowicz answers the question of, “How does a person get right with God”; that is, understanding our need for a Saviour and acknowledging the fact that we need to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Jesus.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 1:3)
